Australian Olympic Qualifying Tournament - Sang, Henzell Qualify

William Henzell and Stephanie Sang are the first players to earn a place to compete at the Oceania Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament in Noumea, New Caledonia on 5-8 April 2008. Henzell and Sang won the Round Robin 1 at the Australian Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament being held in South Australia on Saturday 22nd March to clinch their spots, but not without some opposition on the way - Henzell was 0-2 down to Kyle Davis before coming back to win 4-2, and Sang earned her first place position on a countback between Miao Miao, Jian Fang Lay, and herself.

Sunday's Round Robin 2 will select one more player in both the men's and women's ranks, and Monday's Round Robin 3 will determine the third and fourth players who can compete at the Oceania Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament. At present, it looks like Kyle Davis, Miao Miao, and Jian Fang Lay are likely to qualify, with David Zalcberg, Robert Frank, Kiet Tran, Trent Carter, Peri Campbell-Innes and May Cho remaining in contention for a spot in the team. Scott Houston, Vivian Tan, and Claire Campbell-Innes have a lot of work to do today and tomorrow if they want to steal a place.

Full results can be found on the Table Tennis South Australia website. Good luck everyone!
