When asked by a reader whether the server could throw the ball up and then catch it again, for a second I wasn't sure whether it was a serious question. Surely that was something I'd answered before in the Table Tennis Rules Q&A section? And wasn't it obvious?
After doing a bit of checking, it turns out the answer to both of those questions was no - I hadn't been asked this question before, and in fact you have to do a fair bit of rule extrapolation to work out whether the server is actually allowed to catch the ball or not.
