The last few days on the Internet have provided a number of noteworthy articles about table tennis - here's a few that I thought were well worth sharing with everyone:
- Mytabletennis.net forum member Anger Manager has posted the first two parts of an interview he conducted with Jan-Ove Waldner. The interview was conducted in Swedish and has been translated into English. Part one deals with Waldner's thoughts on his opponents, while Part Two involves Jan-Ove's opinions on equipment. Part Three is yet to come, but will get Waldner's insights on Swedish and European table tennis compared to Chinese table tennis - which should be interesting to read!
- A second thread worthy of mention at MyTableTennis.net is one created by forum member PP Dui, who posted a Chinese article discussing the essentials of the Chinese forehand loop. Later posters have provided an English translation of the original article (scroll down the thread), providing us all with the opportunity to learn from the best of the Chinese.
- Elsewhere on the Web, the ITTF report that the first "million dollar player" has arrived - with China's Shanxi table tennis club paying the equivalent of US $1.6 million for the services of Guo Yan over the next two years.
- Finally, a study was performed on young (age 10-14) Croatian table tennis players to try to determine whether a certain body type (mesomorph, endomorph, or ectomorph) is preferable for table tennis. While the study itself is not light reading, the conclusion appears to be that a tendency to the muscular mesomorph type was prevalent in about half the subjects, while a tendency to the ectomorphic type was evident in about a third, leaving the rest endomorphic. The researchers concluded that body type was not a direct influence on the results of young table tennis players. Good news for all of us that tend to carry a few extra pounds around!
