End of Follow Through

The ball is on its way over the net, and the player has reached the end of his follow through.

Points to look for:

  • The upper playing arm does not go above shoulder height - lifting the elbow any further would not improve the stroke, and would slow down recovery.
  • The player has straightened up due to the effect of the final part of the swing.
  • The racket has finished in front of the body, with very little side-to-side swinging of the playing arm.
  • The feet have not moved throughout the stroke, apart from the player rising onto his right foot a little due to his upward swing. Any extra foot movement would increase the risk of mistiming the ball. Of course, during an actual match, very often the player will be required to make a stroke while moving to reach the ball, but the basic principles will be maintained as much as possible.
