The ball has crossed the net and is about to bounce on the table, and the player is stepping forward into position to play the drop shot.

Points to look for:

  • The right foot is stepping forward, to allow the player to reach the ball while maintaining good balance.
  • The player is focusing closely on the ball, so that he can adjust to any last second deviations in the flight or bounce.
  • The bat is open, with its tip pointing towards the ball. This gives a little more reach, and allows the player to play the stroke from behind the ball, instead of to the side of the ball, which would be a little more difficult to judge.
