The ball is about to bounce on the opponent's court, and the player is beginning to return to his ready position.

Points to look for:

  • The playing arm is being moved backwards into its ready position, as the bodyweight is beginning to shift backwards as well.
  • The player is continuing to check the progress of his opponent in reaching the ball.
  • The bat has been moved back into its vertical position, with the edge facing upwards, in preparation for moving to the forehand or backhand with equal ease.
