The ball is about to bounce, and the player is preparing to play a drop shot.

Points to look for:

  • The player is still watching the ball closely, looking for any sudden deviation in the flight of the ball, or movement sideways when it bounces.
  • The bat is tilted forward, to help control the topspin on the ball, and make the ball bounce low and forward from the racket, rather than upwards. The player intends to hit the ball only a few inches above the net, and hopefully have the ball bounce twice on the table, which is more difficult for the opponent to reach.
