Points to look for:
- The player is watching the bounce of the ball carefully, so that he can adjust the position of his bat as required.
- The bat is roughly at a 45 degree angle. If more topspin was on the ball, the player would hold the bat a little more horizontally, to help keep the ball lower.
- The legs and feet are holding position, since there is no need for any transfer of bodyweight into the stroke. The drop shot is a touch shot, not a power shot.
- Notice that the bounce is roughly mid-table. The closer to the endline that the ball lands, the harder it is to drop shot the ball short successfully. However, if the opponent has his weight moving backwards, or is a long way from the table, even a poor drop shot may still be effective.
