The ball has now bounced on the table, and the player has decided that his opponent is not going to reach the ball in time.

Points to look for:

  • The player, having decided that the opponent won't get to the ball, is now relaxing instead of recovering quickly into his ready position for the next stroke. If he turns out to be wrong and his opponent gets to the ball, the player will be unprepared for his next stroke, and may well lose the point, even though the opponent may not have made a very good return.
