Defender Drills for Table Tennis

From Greg Letts, About.com

Defenders (or choppers) have it tough in table tennis, without a doubt. Besides the difficulties of speed glue and modern technology, there is also problem of trying to find good training drills to perform. The usual attacker drills just aren't enough for a defensive player, and then there is the additional problem of finding drills that suit your training partner as well. Most defenders train with attackers, but what if you and your partner are both defenders?

In this series of drills, I'm going to introduce a number of drills for both combinations - a defender and an attacker, and two defenders. I'll explain each drill in detail, and discuss the benefits of the drill for each player, as well as how you can vary the drill to make it more or less difficult, or to achieve different objectives in your training.
