blade

By Greg Letts, About.com

Definition: A table tennis blade is mainly wooden (at least 85% by thickness under ITTF rules), and has a handle for the player to grip the bat. It may be of any size, shape, or weight, but it must be flat and rigid.

When a rubber or rubbers is placed on one or both sides of the blade, the combination is called a table tennis bat , racket, or paddle.
