The ball has bounced on the table, and the player is in position to play his stroke.

Points to look for:

  • The player has finished turning his waist and shoulders to the left, since the power of the stroke comes mainly from the arm and wrist.
  • Since the serve is a backspin serve, the player has brought his bat down to a point well below the expected top of the ball's bounce.
  • The bat has been kept inside the left knee, in order to maintain better balance throughout the stroke.
  • The wrist still has not cocked to any degree.
  • The player is watching the ball closely.
