The ball has bounced on the table, and the player is moving into position to play his stroke.

Points to look for:

  • The player has started to step forward and sideways with his right foot, to bring his body closer to the ball.
  • The player has continued to turn his waist and shoulders to the right.
  • Since the serve is a backspin serve, the player has brought his bat down to a point well below the expected top of the ball's bounce, and the bat can just be seen behind the player's right leg.
  • The free arm is being kept in synch with the playing arm, in order to help the player maintain balance during this powerful stroke.
