The backswing has finished, and the forward swing about to start.

Points to look for:

  • The shoulders have turned a little to the left, and are now at a slight angle to the endline of the table.
  • The bat has continued to move backwards into position. This will allow the player to swing forward and down when striking the ball, causing backspin to be put on the ball. Note that the bat is held slightly more vertically than for the backhand backspin serve, since less spin will be put on the ball.
  • The player has continued to focus on the ball.
  • The player has a slight forward lean from the waist.
  • The free arm has dropped slightly to get out of the way of the forward swing.
