Start of Forward Swing

The player has begun his forward swing.

Points to look for:

  • The bat has dropped downwards a little, to allow a swing that will be mainly forwards.
  • The angle of the bat is slightly closed, i.e. the top edge of the bat is slightly further forward than the bottom edge. This will help produce topspin when the ball is struck.
  • The player is continuing to watch the ball closely.
  • The shoulders, waist and hips are now stationary.
  • The upper part of the playing arm is also stationary, with most of the movement coming from the forearm and wrist.
