2011 New Zealand Veterans Open Championships

After competing in the 2010 New Zealand Veterans Open Championships and having a great time, I was keen to come back and try again. I also had extra incentive in that this year I was selected to play in the O/40 Men's Team in the annual Australia vs New Zealand Test Match. Chances to represent your country at any age don't come along all that often, and this was my first opportunity, so how could I say no?

The 2011 New Zealand Veterans Open Championships was held in Invercargill this year, and inside the ILT Velodrome, a late change of venue forced by the collapse of the Stadium Southland roof in a much heavier than usual snow storm in September 2010.

Undaunted by this disaster, the organizers still managed to provide an excellent facility for the tournament. And of course the Kiwi friendliness and hospitality that I experienced last year was still very much in evidence!
