The player has returned to his ready position before the next stroke.

Points to look for:

  • The player has let his arm drop a little more to move his bat back into the ready position.
  • The player is once again looking at his opponent, to see what his opponent is going to do.
  • The racket is being tipped a little to one side, since the player is anticipating from his opponent's position that the next stroke will go to his backhand again, and this tipping is getting the bat into a slightly closed position for the backhand. (In actual fact, the player is playing against a robot in this demonstration, and knows that the next ball is going to his backhand, and is probably moving his racket a little earlier than he would against a real opponent).
  • Finally, notice that the player is back in a balanced waiting position. He could move forwards, backwards, or sideways with equal ease.
