- The fact that the sport has grown little (if any) in the US
- That there are very few kids playing
- That professional matches are so short (compare in length a Tennis final to Table Tennis)
- That the game is so offensive, (i.e. rallies are too short)
- That serve deception is such a large part of the game
- I'll save the word 'hate' for terrorists - but one thing I dislike is the 'Choing' and cheering based only on who wins the point, even if it's based on luck or someone's mistake. Very egotistical and childish - even if popularized by rich, 'successful' but disfunctional ' adults' like John McEnroe who brought a form of mass spectator popularity to Lawn Tennis, but undercut some of it's best values as a participant sport in the process.
Without sportsmanship and respect and appreciation for the opponent, it isn't a sport, a civilized activity, just an extension of 'war' - cavemen swinging clubs over who drags home the dead animal. People with that kind of attitude - the complexity and challenge of table tennis is probably wasted on. Folks like that may as well stick to watching WWE or ultimate fighting.
- Cho!
- Diminishing role of defense - yin without yang
- Technology-dominated evolution
- Lack of importance placed on historical legacy
- My pet peeve about doubles is the rule that states that you always serve from the right hand side of the table. I would like to see the rule changed so the first serve is from the right and the second serve from the left. This way the server does not have to move to the left after serving as he is already there. As the rule is, I find one gets into a rut of receiving (and mainly backhand) always on the same side. Serving from alternate sides would add some variety.
