Points to look for:
- The player is continuing to watch the ball right up to the point of contact, in order to make sure he can adjust to any changes in the ball's movement.
- The player has reached towards the ball, with his elbow only a little higher than his hand. Compare the elbow position in this photograph with the much higher elbow position in the comparable backhand flick photograph.
- The free arm is acting as a counterweight to the player's playing arm, improving his balance.
- The player's left foot has gone around the side of the table to allow the player to reach the ball comfortably, and still be able to push himself backwards after making the stroke.
